Running school visits and workshops with Judith Rossell
About
SCBWI Tas is excited to present two online sessions with acclaimed picture book and middle grade author/illustrator Judith Rossell:Tuesday 23 June, 7.30-8.30pm
Tuesday 30 June, 7.30-8.30pm
Writers and illustrators at all stages will learn a lot from Judith who has a 20-year career in children’s writing and illustrating. The sessions will be particularly beneficial for emerging writers and illustrators who are looking to want to present their book to schools or earn some income from delivering writing workshops but don’t know how to start, what schools expect and what to prepare.
Both sessions will be recorded. Recordings will only be available for 14 days after the event.
School Visits That Spark Young Readers
A practical guide to planning and delivering successful school visits for children’s writers and illustrators. Explore how to target different age groups, tailor sessions for primary versus secondary students, pitch to schools, and design presentations that suit your book and creative style. From classroom workshops to large-scale presentations, this webinar will help you develop engaging, interactive visits that work for both fiction and non-fiction creators.
Creating Dynamic Writing Workshops for Storytellers
Building on the foundations of school visits, this webinar focuses on the creative side of delivering writing workshops for aspiring writers of all ages, including adults. Discover ideas for workshop structure, writing prompts, interactive activities and facilitation techniques that encourage creativity, participation and confidence. Perfect for authors and illustrators wanting to create memorable, hands-on experiences that inspire future storytellers.
Following the workshops, SCBWI members have the option to pay for further advice. They can send a workshop outline (max 2 pages) for Judith to provide written feedback. It can be either a school visit outline or an outline of a writing workshop. Numbers are limited - register your interest in getting feedback on your workshop plan from Judith when you register for a workshop.
To further support our members, SCBWI Tas is looking at providing opportunities to deliver a practice workshop. Let us know if you are interested in finding out more about this.
With more than 20 years’ experience writing and illustrating children’s books, Judith Rossell has written 16 books and illustrated more than 80.
